WTN: Harrington Lagrein '14....(short/boring)

by TomHill » Wed Jun 05, 2024 3:15 pm

Cracked this one from my stash last night:
1. Harrington Lagrein PelletiereVnyd/PasoRobles (14.1%) SanFrancisco 2014: Very dark color w/ some bricking; very strong grapey/plummy/Lagrein fruity some toasty/oak bit ripe/PR jammy slight chocolate/ripe bit dusty/OV some complex interesting attractive nose; rather soft frairly rich/lush strong plummy/grapey/Lagrein bit licorice/chocolatey/ripe bit metallic/drying out slightly complex flavor w/ modest drying/tangy tannins; long bit metallic/drying out/tired finish w/ drying tannins; still lots of plummy/ripe/Lagrein fruit & lots of PR/jammy ripeness; starting to dry out some on the palate & showing that slight metallic character of a wine starting in its decline; drink up whilst it still has fruit left.

More sittlybog from TheBloodyPulpit:
1. Lagrein is a grape of the Trentino/AltoAdige & is a descendent of Teroldego. I generally like the Trentino Lagreins but prefer the Teroldegos.

Your post evokes a memory of long, long ago taking a Lagrein to one of Bill Spohn's Vancouver lunches. I am struggling to remember the producer--I want to say Terlano but that doesn't make sense, so I'm not sure whose it was. But what I am sure of is that the boys started at Bordeaux and then guessed every grape on the planet before giving in for the reveal. Nobody had ever had a truly legit Lagrein. When it's good, it's really really good.
My wine shopping and I have never had a problem. Just a perpetual race between the bankruptcy court and Hell.--Rogov

Yup, Jenise. And it's really good most of the time.
