A few weeks ago I opened another 2001 Pegau Res. at the same venue, my sister-in-laws house, with the same result; not cooked, Maderized or corked....just vegetal and skunky (not literally ) but undrinkable. Score for 2001 Pegau is now 4 great...2 terrible and 2 unopened, I will be credited for the 2 bad bottles I then opened a 2020 of same wine and given 1/2 hour it started to shine showing great potential. This week-end we had a wine-loving guest so opened more nice wine. First off was a 2007 Pegau Res. that was flat-out fabulous and went great with lasagna from a great little deli in Westlake Ohio (D'Italiano) . For dessert we had a 2009 Guiraud Sauternes that seemed full of botrytis and excellent acidity with decades of life ahead.. On Saturday my guest also brought down a dry-rub brisket that was also wonderful with a 2000 Calon-Segur which is finally entering maturity. It was smokey, earthy and a touch of black raspberry with no bricking at the edges. Lots of future here too. This was my first taste of this wine and I'm glad to have a few more. For our dessert last nite we has a 1/2 bottle of 2014 Trimbach V.T. gewurtztraminer. This bottle seemed to have better acidity than the last bottle, was quite sweet and with fine balance. Thanks for reading and I hope notes are usefull.
