WTN: Sauvignon Niklas Alto Adige 2005

by Hoke » Fri Mar 09, 2007 1:33 pm

Our mutual acquaintance on this forum, Oliver McCrum, has imported a winner with this crisp, racy, acidically driven SB from the Alto Adige in Italy.

We discovered the Niklas Sauvignon on a wine list in the small neighborhood restaurant named Sociale. It's down an alley right off Sacramento Street in SF, and the food is very Italiano in style: fresh, full of flavor, and relatively straightforward. Good enough we'll certainly go back.

But the wine list, done by a fella named Jim Kennedy, is very Italian-focused and a delight to behold.

Our starter wine was the Niklas, and it was a savory little thing, with loads of fresh, crisp citrus, a little sage leaf, and a dollop of grapefruit lingering underneath. Fresh, fresh, fresh. Mouthwatering. We lingered over it as long as we could.

Don't know how much Oliver is bringing in, but if you see it, jump on it. This is really good Alto Adige SB.

And should you be in SF, you could do worse than checking out Sociale for lunch or dinner (it's in the Open Table roster too).

Glad you liked it, Hoke. I had it last night, in fact.
