WTN: Hey Mey

by Jenise » Thu May 30, 2024 7:32 am

Opened a 2006 Meyney to accompany some green chile burgers last night, and found it a little tired which was not entirely unexpected. Cork came out in two pieces, however, so may not have been a perfect bottle to begin with.

I'm on record as a huge lover of Meyney in the 80s. Thought it dipped in 90s. '03 was heralded as a return to form, so I bought, but was disappointed. And found 2005 to be unimpressive for vintage. So maybe it's the cork, maybe it's the wine.

Me too re Meyney in the 80's. I got into them with both 86 and 89. Somehow ended up with two '06s and either one or two '09s. The other 06 about five years ago was nice enough, and the '09 I have no memory of acquiring. It's been in my kitchen wine fridge since forever so possibly arrived with a guest. It was never entered into inventory. I checked CT notes just now on that one--and they're all over the place. Not expecting much!

2009 is a really good year for “minor” Bordeaux.

Understood, Dave. But recent notes on CT are oddly diverse. No two quite alike, and not especially positive. I'll pop mine this weekend perhaps.
