Matching Wine and Chips?

Came across this. Hadn't given much thought to matching wine with potato chips, but........

I remember, as a child, my parents would buy uncooked shrimp chips that would puff up when fried in hot oil.
Nice and crunchy with a hint of inoffensive seafood flavour.
That might be a good match with rose.

Honestly, I don't think there's any such thing. Plain potato chips are great with champagne because they're salty. That said Barbecue, which tend to be sweet, would be a better match for zinfandel than grenache IMO. Chenin-regardless-of-producer makes no more sense for sour cream and onion than name-any chardonnay or sauvignon blanc. Otherwise just eat the damned chips and wash them down with whatever's handy!

We did potato chips and Champagne last week while we were on vacation! Yummy!!

Certainly not unheard of during apéritif time in France.

It should be noted that popcorn and Champagne is such a perfect match that you should probably hand your keys to your designated driver before you even dig in.

I like chips and Champagne, but tend to stick to plain aka salted (particularly fond of Torres when I can find). I think Grenache and BBQ would be weird, might try rose bubbles. I don't think any wine would work that well with salt and vinegar chips.
