WTN: Three New Solminer Wines....(short/boring)

by TomHill » Mon May 27, 2024 1:41 pm

My new Solminer shipment arrived last week & I tried over the weekend:
1. Solminer Dry Riesling CoquelicotVnyd/LosOlivosDist (12.1%; 112 cs; www.Solminer.com) Anna& David DeLaski/LosOlivos 2022: Light gold color; fairly fragrant R/floral/mango/bit herbal light stony/chalky very slight Mosel valve oil slight steely/metallic rather quiet/low-key fairly interesting nose; rather tart/tangy light floral/R/mango slight mineral/citrusy/chalky quite quiet/understated flavor; med.short quiet R finish that follows flavor; a somewhat pleasant/interesting R that, like manySolminers whites, ispushing too close to vapid/simple/flavorless territory; probably will put on some weight over the next few yrs. $36.00/$32.00

2. Solminer Sunhoney SantaBarbaraCnty (12%; 55% GrunerVeltliner/26% Viognier/16% Rieslng/3% Muscat; Cofrmtd on skins) 2023: Light golden/yellow quite hazy/cloudy color; quite resinous/VM/phenolic rather spicy/GV/white pepper some orangey/honey grahams bit earthy/dusty interesting nose; somewhat tart/tangy/bit metallic some resinous/VM/phenolic some GV/white pepper/floral/carnations/gardenias bit hard/tannic some complex flavor; very long some tannic/phenolic finish that mimics flavor; a nice balance between VM/phenolic & GV fruit; an interesting wine that should improve over the next 3-5 yrs. $36.00/$32.00

More nillyferq from TheBloodyPulpit:
1. I've followed Anna & David DeLaski's Solminer wines from the very start. They are natural wines that are perfectly clean & never show any natty character. They both have experience in Austria and focus on that style of wines. I, in general, like their wines, varietally correct, but sometimes just wish for a little more intensity & extract in their whites.
