Took my wife out for her birthday dinner to one of our favorite restaurants last night (babysitter and all) and decided I would appeal to her wine palate rather than my pinot centric palate. http://www.Rosines.com has one of the coolest lists in the world. Well thought out and generally amazing prices. Can’t think of a better list locally. I decided on the 1999 Sean Thackrey Orion. This is a true beauty. Still a baby but starting to integrate and give a glimpse of good things to come. The Orion has an amazing rhone-ish nose with just a touch of eucalyptus that goes right to the palate with great ease and then shows tons of fruit and earthy complexity on the front. The wine is every so slightly clunky at this stage. No hurry to drink but man it is good now. I had my final glass when I was done with the food and at that stage the tannins clipped the finish. Crazy concept with some Cali syrahs…enjoy with food!
Cheers,
Jason
