WTN: Josef Fritz Wagram Roter Veltliner '22....(short/boring

Doug brought this as a mystery wine to our tasting last Wed:
1. Weingut Josef Fritz Ried Steinberg Privat QTW: Wagram Roter Veltliner (13%; trocken; www.Weingut-Fritz.At) Ruppersthal/Wagram 2022: Med.dark gold color; slightly pungent/resinous (not from skin-contact) slight valve oil/floral bit aged R-like fairly complex nose; off-dry rather complex/pungent bit aged R-like slight floral/gardenias bit tangy/tart sight metallic/pungent/resinous rather attractive flavor; med.long bit soft/tangy finish that follows favor; not the soaring aromatics of Gruner; not markedly distinctive like Gruner but a very pleasant/attractive expression of Roter. $nc (DW)

More rotlieb from TheBloodyPulpit:
1. This was a wine brought back from Vienna by Doug Wilson recently to share with us. His mission was to scout out a Roter Veltliner.
Roter Veltliner is not directly related to Gruner Veltliner, though they do have some parentage in their history. The few Roters I've tried have not been particularly inspiring. This was probably the best Roter that I've yet tried.
Roter is mostly found in the Wagram. Josef Fritz, a producer I've never tried, is a champion of the Roter variety. Some say he makes the best examples of this variety.

Interesting.

Way back in 1999 (December 26, 1999 to be precise) I had the opportunity to taste a 1973 Brundlmayer Roter Veltliner. It was quite enjoyable for about 45 minutes before it fell apart. Have not had one since, though I did see one when I was on a business trip several years ago.

Well, David.... being one to try odd stuff, I've tried probably a dozen or so. They have been vaguely Austrian in style, but just not very distinctive.
