WTN: Life is a Cabernet - ‘13 Ridge Estate Cab

by David M. Bueker » Thu Apr 04, 2024 10:34 pm

Served blind by our tasting group host, this was my favorite wine of the night, and while clearly California, stood toe to toe in terms of grace/elegance with the two Bordeaux that followed. Loaded with cassis fruit, subtle (yes!) oak spice, gravelly earth, and just a hint of green herbs, this was almost exactly what I look for in Cabernet Sauvignon. The fruit and tannins were balanced for significant further evolution, so I will stay hands off my personal bottles for a while,

Nice! I have a pair of '16 mags that I'd love to rip into, but I keep putting it off. On the one hand, too much wine too young, on the other: life is short. I'm not sure if you've provided unwitting encouragement or not. I think not, but still, if I need an excuse I'll use this.
My wine shopping and I have never had a problem. Just a perpetual race between the bankruptcy court and Hell.--Rogov
