WTN: 2000 Montelena Estate Cab

by Paul Winalski » Wed Mar 20, 2024 11:45 am

2000 Cabernet Sauvignon, Chateau Montelena Estate

This wine looks mature, but you'd never believe it is 24 years old. There are abundant and complex aromas of dark fruit, with blackcurrants dominating. The flavors follow the aromas. Tannins are fully resolved and everything is in balance. Long finish. Power and elegance. I'd say it's just coasted up to its plateau of maturity and will continue to give great pleasure for another twenty years or so. Triple Curly.

Excellent. I am loading up the car this week with cases of Montelena from my dad’s cellar, including some more 2000.

I have Montelena back through the 91 vintage and that showing is typical - one of my favourite Cal-cabs.
