by TomHill » Mon Mar 18, 2024 1:28 pm

Susan & I shared these four over the weekend w/ company:
1. Riva de la Rosa DOC: Frascati (12.5%; RiboliFamilyWines/LosAngeles) Campagna Gello/Pontedera/Lazio 2022: Med.gold color; strong fragrant floral/zinnias/Malvasia light mineral/perfumed talc/chalky quite perfumed slight herbal/spicy quite pretty nose; fairly tart slight tangy/metallic some floral/zinnias/malvasia light perfumed talc/chalky/slight metallic rather perfumed very pretty flavor; med.long floral finish that follows the flavor; a somewhat lightweight white but quite pretty w/ lots of aromatics at a very good price. $16.50 (KK)
________________
2. Guimaro DOC: Ribeira Sacra (12.5%; LLaurador Wines/JosePastor/Fairfax/CA) Adegas Guimaro/Espana 2022: Med.dark gold color; rather earthy/musky slight grapey bit funky/coarse little aromatics nose; soft rather earthy/coarse bit funky/musky/coarse bit rich/lush little fruit rather uninteresting flavor; med.short earthy/coarse finish that mimics flavor; a singularly uninteresting white on the earthy/coarse/oafish side; rather overpriced at $24.00 (KK)

3. Casa Magoni Manaz WW Valle de Guadalupe/Baja Calif (13%; 80% Viognier/20% Fiano; www.CasaMagoni.com; La Competencia Imprts/Napa) Bodega Magoni/Valle de Guadalupe/Mexico 2022: Pale gold color; fairly fragrant Viog/pear rather earthy/quiet/coarse/stony pleasant/clean simple nose; soft light pear/Viog rather quiet some earthy/rustic simple flavor; short finish that follows flavor; a dreadfully ordinary white that speaks of Viog in a whisper; reminds some of a Pays d'Oc Viog but not as mineral & stony; dull as dishwater. $19.50 (KK)
________________
4. Tenuta LaPergola IlGoccetta Monferatto Rosso (13.5%; Brachetto grape; KermitLynch/Berkeley) 2019: Med.light rather browning color; rather earthy/dusty/OV somewhat tired/old Italian red/cedary little fruit some old Red nose; soft rather tired/aged some dried out fairly earthy/dusty/OV very little fruit flavor w/ light dried-out tannins; a pretty tired/dried out/uninteresting old Monferatto totally lacking in Brachetto fruit; no bargain at $16.50 (KK)

More ribblekipp from TheBloodyPulpit:
1. Frascati is a region in the Lazio region that is the source of these wines. By law, it must be made of two different varieties of Malvasia. Most Frascati wines are fairly bland. This one was one step above that, though not a profound wine.

2. The LLaurador wine is pretty typical of his wines. These are natural wines & tend to be a bit funky. At least this was not as strongly natty as many of his wines are. An importer to try w/ low expectations.
