WTN: Prüm it all night

Last had this two years ago, and it was very youthful. Last night it was very youthful. It's a rich, but not excessively sweet Kabinett, and there's ample underlying acidity. Served blind I might have guessed someone's Spatlese Feinherb. Beyond the structure/form, this needs several more years, as it still seems a bit closed. Lots of depth, but not translated into outward character. That's consistent with most of my 2012 experiences - the wines are evolving very slowly.

thanks for note. I think I have 2 bottles of this, but will definitely hold. If I feel compelled to open '12s (which might be a mistake), will go with those I have multiple bottles of,

All this 2012 talk is interesting. I have some 2012 Heymann-Löwenstein GGs that I had planned to open soon (although no rush). Cellartracker suggests they are drinking well, although dry wines may be different curve than the rs wines.

Two years since my last bottle and not much has changed. Still young, with bright fruit, bracing acidity, and a Kabinett feel, though bordering on Spätlese. It remains delicious, but I am surprised that going on 14 years from the vintage there hasn’t been much development. Better bury my (large) stash of Spätlese and Auslese for the long haul.

What was the sulfur level like? I haven't bought many post-2000 Prums, but I recall tthe '80s and '90s vintages had a good bit of SO2 when young. Not enough to be a fault, but notable.

Nonexistent.

When Katherina Prüm took over in the mid-2000s she backed off on the sulfur. There’s still the spontaneous fermentation (sponti) aromas but those fade more quickly in bottle and with decanting.

I took a 2004 JJP GH Spatlese to a Reisling dinner in Vancouver last night at a German Restaurant. It was, I'm proud to say, the group favorite. In fact I think only one person voted for one of the others, although none were dogs. It was the oldest wine on the table but didn't taste like it, and it presented as dry or drier than the kabinetts. Unfortunately, my last bottle.
My wine shopping and I have never had a problem. Just a perpetual race between the bankruptcy court and Hell.--Rogov

2004 is a really good and wildly underrated vintage in the Mosel.
