Lemony shrimp in orzo, broccoli, and the 2022 ColleStefano Verdicchio di Matelica. I think of this as the Muscadet of Italy - crisp, saline, with citrus and dry pit fruits. Great QPR. B+/B

Flannery saddle of lamb, sweet potatoes, spinach, and salad
2001 La Grave a Pomerol
Medium bodied, black plum and mocha, a hint of green tobacco leaf. B/B+

Reading about the passing of Willi Schaefer, so opened the 2012 Willi Schaefer Graccher Domprobst Spatlese #10. This was pretty withdrawn and grumpy, a bit of sweetness but no depth. I gave this a B-/C+ but it was definitely better on night 2 (will try again on night 5)

Oysters, cod cheeks, Brussels sprouts, and salad
2018 Goodfellow Durant Chardonnay
There’s some flint-spark/matchstick notes, but I decant and they dissipate. White pear fruit, wet rocks, touch of vanilla. Young but tasty. B+

Grade disclaimer: I'm a very easy grader, basically A is an excellent wine, B a good wine, C drinkable. Anything below C means I wouldn't drink at a party where it was only choice. Furthermore, I offer no promises of objectivity, accuracy, and certainly not of consistency.

no wine Mon or Tues, revisited the Domprobst last night, much more open and giving. Are '12s in general showing a bit closed? Just found most of a case of Zilliken Rausch Spat, debating whether to open one.

I haven't checked in much lately. I guess I need to.

Just opened a 2012 J. J. Prüm Graacher Himmelreich Kabinett. It’s nice enough, but not showing all its cards. Also quite young.
