WTN: Sunglasses at Night

  • 2017 Once & Future Wine Zinfandel Oakley Road Vineyard - USA, California, San Francisco Bay, Contra Costa County (3/6/2024)
Five years ago I said that I would err on the side of drinking my bottles sooner rather than later. Well the wine always has the last word! This is still youthful, red-fruited and refreshing, but it has also developed the most enthralling aroma of roses and dusty red cherries. I kept going back to it, and it stayed vivid and clear no matter how many times I went back. It’s also quite tasty, but really there’s no need to drink it. Just inhale and be transported to a place where the flowers never fade, and the fruit is picked ripe from the tree.

I’ve bought the Oakley Road Mataro but never the Zin, and now I regret it; but there’s always too much to choose from!

Given a choice I would buy the Mataro every single time - and did so on Tuesday.

This release I went for Bedrock, Old Hill, Palisades (I can’t help it, I’m a sucker for Petite) and Vogensen, the last of which I’ve never had before, but I wanted to branch out, and I do have a soft spot for Dry Creek. Glad that this 2017 gave you a pleasant surprise, in any event!
cheers, Patchen

I held back (as required), and only bought the Oakley Mataro and Teldeschi Zin.

I could have bought two cases!
