WTN: Last Night's White & Red....(short/boring)

by TomHill » Mon Feb 19, 2024 3:28 pm

Unthrilling wines last night:
1. Selten Riesling Dd'O: Bierzo RW (9%; SkurnikWines/NY) Raul Perez/Bierzo 2019: Med.light gold color; rather stony/earthy slight floral/R/carnations some mineral/stony/metallic not very aromatic nose; fairly tart/tangy rather earthy/dusty/loamy slight floral/R rather coarse flavor; med. finish that mimics flavor; a rather earthy/coarse rendition w/ very little R aromatics; way overpriced for what it is; speaks little of R. $47.00 (LCSWS)

2. Gaffino Cardinale Dd'OP: Lazio Cesanese (13.5%; www.CantinaGaffino.It; EnotecImprts/GreenwoodVillage/CO) Gabriele Gaffino/Roma 2020: Dark color; strong grapey/plummy/boysenberry/ripe somewhat earthy/dusty/rustic/bit coarse some overripe/grapey/alcoholic nose; soft fairly rich/lush rather grapey/plummy/licorice rather rustic/ripe/coarse flavor w/ light tannins; long finish mimics flavor; a rather ripe/grapey fairly coarse/earthy red w/ little distinguishing character; price is right but you get what you pay for in this case. $12.00 (SFW&S)

More biddlefurt from TheBloodyPulpit:
1. I bought the Selten because it was a R from Bierzo. When I looked at the back label, it said Bierzo Red Wine. Huh??? Looks to be a mislabel. Anyway, the R was not very thrilling & lacked aromatics.

Interesting. Wouldn't have expected to find a Spanish Riesling any more than I'd have expected to see a German Tempranillo.
My wine shopping and I have never had a problem. Just a perpetual race between the bankruptcy court and Hell.--Rogov
