- 1995 Ravenswood Rancho Salina Vineyards - USA, California, Sonoma County, Sonoma Valley (1/30/2024)
From one of the Ravenswood library sales that Joel Peterson did a few years ago, this was (to date) the best of all the bottles I have opened from my three case purchases. Perfect condition cork comes out, and I can immediately smell dark cherry fruit. The wine is also in perfect condition, with zero trace of decay, and a cornucopia of developed aromas and flavors, from leather and earth to nutmeg and cedar. Beyond that what’s truly special is the texture, which manages to combine silky and just a bit of spiky. It’s like petting a cat who occasionally gives a little nip when you stroke the wrong spot. Fascinating and enthralling wine that made this a very special January 30, 2024.
