Cracked these two oldies for DinDin last night:
1. Pikes Riesling ClareVlly Hills&Valleys (11.5%; www.PikesWines.com.Au; CountryVintner/Ashland/VA) PikesVintners/Seven Hill/Clare/South Australia 2013: Quite a pop when the screwcap is opened; light gold color w/ lots of tiny bubbles that dissapate rapidly; lovely floral/R/mango/bit pineapple strong Mosel valve oil/petrol slight steely/flinty very Mosel some complex nose; lightly tart/tangy/steely/flinty/very Germanic strong floral/R/mango slight metallic some petrol/Mosel valve oil slight dissolved CO2 tangy beautiful complex flavor; very long/lingering mango/R/petrol finish that mirrors flavor; a beautiful example of a mature Clare Vlly R that should age for another 10 yrs probably.

2. Ioppa Vespolina Dd'OC: Colline Novaresi (13.5%; GiulianaImprts/Boulder) 2006: Med.dark color w/ some bricking; strong grapey/licorice/black cherry cola/bit plummy light pencilly/oak/slight cedary bit earthy/dusty/OV classic Vespo bit complex nose; lightly tart rather tangy/metallic earthy/dusty/OV very little fruit flavor w/ light astringent tannins; long rather tangy/metallic some dried-out little fruit finish; an interesting fully mature Vespo nose but the tangy/metallic character of a drying-out/tired wine on the palate; nose is fine but pretty much on its last legs.

More skittlegeek from TheBloodyPulpit:
1. As I was digging around (don't ask!!) for a dinner wine, I cam across this box down near the bottom I hadn't looked at for a number of yrs. So I plucked these two out. I didn't expect much from the Vespolina & it fully delivered. It should have been totally gone but did offer up some interesting pleasure. I had high expectations for the Pikes and it fully delivered on that. I have 2 more btls in that box. So it must have been cheap. I'm recalling around $16/btl.
Back into that same box for more treasures tonight. Stay tuned.
