1995 Hardys Shiraz Eileen Hardy Jimmy Watson Memorial Trophy - I find these wines to be reliably long aging, but I go back to check on them from time to time (sometimes years apart) to see where they are at. This one is at a really nice place - obviously Australian but not to heavy on the American oak. Sweet ripish fruit in the nose, very smooth slightly tannic finish and very smooth light tannins at the end. Drinking really well now. Interestingly, if one looks at CT for other reviews one sees mostly negative ones over the last decade, all saying that the wine is over the hill - except for the most recent one that reflects how I feel about the wine. If you have it, pull a bottle and try it to see which you agree with. FWIW I keep a fairly cool cellar at 13 C.

I have always liked the Eileen Hardys, and this sounds pretty much like I would expect one to turn out. When are we going to do an Australian tasting? Maybe never--you, me and John are likely the only ones who have them.

I'd like to do an Aussie event this Spring. And also a South African one. We might have to make the Aussie one an Anzac affair as some members may have New Zealand wines but not Australian. We can bring it up next week.
