WTN: Rotie Northern White '22....(short/boring)

by TomHill » Thu Jan 25, 2024 1:11 pm

Bruce brought this white to our tasting at Pig+Fig last night:
1. Rotie NorthernWhite WallaWallaVlly (12.1%; 60% Roussanne/40% Marsanne; www.RotieCellars.com) Papineau 2022: Med.gold color lovely Rouss/honeysuckle/honeyed rather floral/gardenias very perfumed slight oak bit mineral/chalky lovely nose; rather stony/mineral/chalky lightly floral/gardenias quite tart/tangy some R/honeysuckle rather mineral flavor; very long mineral/stony finish that mimics flavor; not breally big & lush like many white blends but more mineral/Rhonish in character; quite an attractive white Rhone blend.

More rotabiddle from TheBloodyPulpit:
1. I was expecting this wine to be really rich & lush like many of the Calif white Rhone blends but it showed a strong Rhonish minerality you typically get in Calif white blend. Some like the Tablas Esprit de Tablas Blanc but even more minerality.

I've not had Rotie's Northern white (only the Southern, a LONG time ago) but based on Rotie's reds would have actually expected something that leans more toward big and lush. I'm glad it wasn't; this sounds quite engaging.
My wine shopping and I have never had a problem. Just a perpetual race between the bankruptcy court and Hell.--Rogov
