  • 2002 d'Arenberg The Laughing Magpie Shiraz-Viognier - Australia, South Australia, Fleurieu, McLaren Vale (1/24/2024)
From my late father’s s is a very pleasant surprise. Still plenty of deep fruit, and a velvety mouthfeel that picks up some finishing grip. Seems like there’s still some runway on this, and it strikes a balance between sunshiny ripe and structured. I am pleased to have more bottles to work through, and will look to spread them out over the next five years or so.

I'm a D'Arenberg fan, but the Dead Arm has been my fave. That aside, do you know what a Laughing Magpie is? They're a bird that attacks people. Fun fact: when you visit the winery, there are signs advising you wear hats between the parking lot and the building to avoid getting a direct hit.
My wine shopping and I have never had a problem. Just a perpetual race between the bankruptcy court and Hell.--Rogov
