- 2001 Darting Dürkheimer Nonnengarten Rieslaner Auslese - Germany, Pfalz (1/17/2024)
Never mind that the cork slipped into the bottle the moment it was touched, this was still a fabulous bottle of wine. Cinnamon, ripe to falling off the tree peaches, concentrated honey, golden raisins, we’re all backing up by ripping acidity, and a level of concentration more akin to Sauternes. Way back in 2003 when I first drank a bottle of this wine it was sweet, bright and fun. Over 20 years later it’s a reminder that a wine doesn’t have to be expensive (this was $22) to be special. Drink now or until the dinosaurs again walk the earth.
