WTN: Two Grolleau....(short/boring)

by TomHill » Sun Jan 14, 2024 5:19 pm

Had the two Grolleau w/ Susan over the weekend:
1. Grange St.Sauveur LesArceaux VdF Rose (12%; 80% Grolleau Noir/20% GrolleauGris; KermitLynch/Berkeleu) Alice et Antoine Pouponneau/Thoureil/Blaison Gohier/Loire 2020: Some burnished bronze/orangey/bit bricked color; quite fragrant strawberry/watermelon/cranberry bit floral/white flowers rather perfumed slight appley/earthy rather interesting nose; lightly tart rather metallic/tangy bit strawberry/cranberry bit floral/zinnias/marigolds quite dry/austere interesting flavor w/ fairly bitey tannins; long dry/austere bit hard/tannic finish that mimics flavor; a very dry/austere bit hard/tannic somewhat saline rose that badly needs some spicy food; pretty pricey for what it is. $58.50 (KK)

2. Guillaume Reynouard A'Tue-Tete Grolleau Gris Manoir de la Tete Rouge VdF (13%; Aged: 7 mo. in concrete tanks; Garber &Co/Topanga/CA; Stork Wine Co) Loire 2020:Med.color; lightly fragrant/strawberry rather earthy/herbal/CabFranc-like classic Loire red bit complex nose; quite tart/tangy very earthy/herbal/dusty slight strawberry/floral rather rough/rustic flavor w/ light coarse tannins; a pretty classic Loire herbal/earthy red; not particularly attractive but resembles Loire CabFranc; loses a lot of that earthy/herbal character & develops more floral/strawberry character overnight & becomes much more attractive; bit pricey for what it is. $29.00 (SFW&S)

More groyerfittle from TheBloodyPulpit:
1. Grolleau Noir is a grape that originated in Tours and is found almost exclusively in the Loire, mostly around Anjou. It is made primarily into a rose. Grolleau Gris is a white mutation of Grolleau Noir.
See no need to be planting Grolleau all up & down the coast of Calif.
