When it comes to Chiantis, I tend to buy after tasting, in good vintages and then forget about them in the cellar for a decade or so, and the results are usually quite favourable.

That certainly worked for this one - the colour has lightened a bit - more garnet now, and the nose has developed quite nicely with some interesting floral, tobacco and sweet cherry notes, and the wine has a nice silky smooth finish. The price on this was pretty reasonable as I recall - c. $30 Can. Current vintages (2020) are half again that and if you want the Cepparello, it comes in at $170 in this market!

One of my dad's favorites. I was always more partial to the Felsina CC, but the Isole is very nice. Currently about $30 US in my area.

Cepparello held the line on pricing for a very long time. It was in the $70s until 2015, when finally it started moving up.
