- 2016 Bedrock Wine Co. Syrah North Coast - USA, California, North Coast (11/7/2023)
Served in a blind tasting alongside the 2012 Bedrock Alder Springs Syrah, this wine took the flight, and won the night. Where the Alder Springs was dark and brooding (and really no slouch) this North Coast Syrah had layers of aromas and flavors, from sun-drenched herbs, to floral, to leathery, to bright red fruit. It was the complete package. The structural balance on the palate was spot on for drinking right now or for holding a few more years. My preference would be now just because it was so “on” last night. Yet another time where a bargain wine from Bedrock wipes the floor with the competition.
