WTN: Stirn und Drang

  I am a Lauer skeptic. The wines are objectively very fine, but they have never quite rung the bell for me until this one. It does help that I love a good Feinherb. Lots of crunchy tree fruit (apple, pear) and a tart, mouth drying element that I associate with Sweet-Tarts. It’s an association that goes way back to childhood, so it always brightens my mood when I pick it up in a wine.

I've had mixed feelings about Lauer over the years, also slow to warm to them. Perhaps it's because they make so many bottlings, and it's a question of finding the one that clicks. For me, Stirn is one of those bottlings (along with Schonfels). Although I must admit I haven't tasted all bottlings extensively!
