WTN: At Night All Cats Are Black

  • 2005 EMH Cabernet Sauvignon Black Cat - USA, California, Napa Valley (9/26/2023)
Late release, and completely purring. High toned minty aromatic over black currant and cedar notes. Could almost pass aromatically for Bordeaux in an extra ripe year. The California origin comes through more on the palate, as the fruit is sweeter/riper and there’s an herbal nuance that feels like hillside herbs/scrub. Tannins have settled in with the fruit, though they are not yet fully resolved. There’s likely anywhere from 5-20 years left on this wine depending on your preferences. It has that classic structure to handle whatever you want to throw at it.

Have not heard of EMH. Sounds very good for an '05.

And now you never will. The owner moved on from her tiny production label after the 2019 vintage, and has since sold the 1 acre property. More of a moving on to other things in life rather than a sad story of just closing the winery.

I have quite a bit of her wines from the 2013-2019 period, and my dad did as well, so I have even more now. The 2005 was a later, library release that I purchased in 2022.

When I saw the title of this topic I was worried I'd see a review of Zeller Schwarze Katz. :D
