Grilled HMart marinated chicken, king trumpet mushrooms, rice, Swiss chard, assorted banchan
2020 Clos de la Roilette Fleurie
Just like another recent bottle, sweet fruits, minerally, nice acidic backbone. B+

Grilled swordfish, okra and tomatoes, leftover greens and rice
2008 Fevre Montee de Tonnere Chablis 1er
All hail the glory of Diam. I was crushed when my 08 Fevre les Clos (natural cork) was poxed. This is really what I am looking for in serious Chablis. Young but complex, racy acids, green apple and lime, but really about the rocky/chalky long finish. A-

Ostrich steak, sourdough discard scallion pancake, sauteed arugula and radish greens
2021 Belle Roche Cabernet Sauvignon ( Vin Pays d’Oc)
Creme de cassis and Welch’s grape juice, sweet and short. C/C-

1995 Dauzac (Margaux)
Not a lot of oomph left here, but sweet berries and black plums, some earth and cedar. Not a ton of structure- I’d never have guessed 1995- but pleasant for drinking now- don’t hold. B

Local wine group met at Tom’s, he went whole hog on the food. Charcuterie and cheese, followed by salmon canapes, mushrooms stuffed with sausage , and an excellent pork ragu
Agrapart 7 Crus Brut Champagne
Didn’t note DG. Crisp, bread and apples, elegant mousse and good finish. B+

Blind white #1 (mine)
Just a touch of matchstick, blows off. Lovely, balanced, citrus and pear, touches of vanilla and almond.
2018 Goodfellow Whistling Ridge Chardonnay B+/A-

Blind white #2
Clearly Chardonnay, could be a great Burg ringer, pear touched with chalk and hazelnut, gets floral with air, long and elegant.
2021 Domaine Drouhin Oregon “Arthur” Chardonnay A-/B+

Blind white #3
Fresh, appley, but kind of simple after first two.
2018 Montinore Chardonnay B

Blind White #4
Hint of residual sugar, musky flower tones, tropical fruit, clearly not Chard but someone gets PG before I can guess. Not too long
2021 Foris Pinot Gris B/B-

Blind Red #1
Light color, tangy raspberry, snappy acids.
2018 Paul O’Brien Pinot Noir (Willamette) B/B+

Blind Red #2
A tad confectioned, ripe plum fruit, more ripe red wine than PN signature.
2021 Benton Lane Pinot Noir B-

Blind Red #3 (mine)
Very youthful, guesses were 6-10 years old. Black cherry, a touch of coffee, enough acid and tannin that there’s no hurry. Nice length, elegant.
1999 Domaine Drouhin Oregon Pinot Noir B+

Saturday up to Cold Spring for a combination book release party/memorial. Potluck, and lots of wine and drinks out, I only sampled a few

2022 de Negoce OG 347 Sauvignon Blanc (Limestone Coast)
I had watched with fascination (amazement? Horror? ) the de Negoce fanboi culture. So opted to try this. Oh well. Supertropical, sweet edged, big- not what I am looking for in SB. B-/C+

2021 Clos du Bois Chardonnay Reserve
Just what one might expect, not my style. Butter, vanilla extract, pear and fruit cocktail. Better finish than the SB. B-

2020 Maurice Ecard “Serpentieres” Savigny-les-Beaune 1er
I used to love Ecard (02 Narbantons was great recently) , haven’t seen in a while. This has some nice crunchy black cherry and pomegranate fruit, but seems a little less structured and more glossy than the Ecards of old. But still pleasant after the 2 loser whites. B

No wine Sunday as I was picking up Betsy from LaGuardia.

Grade disclaimer: I'm a very easy grader, basically A is an excellent wine, B a good wine, C drinkable. Anything below C means I wouldn't drink at a party where it was only choice. Furthermore, I offer no promises of objectivity, accuracy, and certainly not of consistency.

Your '21 Arthur was better than the one we had two weeks ago at Bill's. It was a very decent wine, but definitely not one that could be mistaken for a white Burg (though the '19 Roserock, also poured that day and made by Drouhin, could).
My wine shopping and I have never had a problem. Just a perpetual race between the bankruptcy court and Hell.--Rogov

Yep - DIAM for the win every time. Got me past my desire for everything to go to screwcap.

Yes Jenise, I had read your note, but went with my blind thoughts, for better or worse. Sorry you found disappointing. I still haven't tried a Roserock
Will be interested in your take Bil. I found this surprisingly gentle for a '95.
David, my Diam record is 0% corked, 0% premoxed, 0% bad reduction.

The Drouhin and Goodfellow chardonnays sound so good, I immediately went online to try to buy some.

Bonus question: what new world chardonnay is as good (or better) than Drouhin’s and Goodfellow’s? Kalin? Stony Hill? What else?

Kalin is sui generis, hard to compare to anything else. The Semillon is actually my favorite (current release is 2001!). I've been told that William Kelly is actually in charge of plans to release the remaining inventory since Terry L passed.

I've had great Stony Hills, but also a number of dead ones. Haven't had any recent releases.

My candidates for great New World chards would include Mt Eden estate wines and Ridge Monte Bello (latter a bit uneven). I think David speaks highly of recent Rameys. I've liked Leeuwin Art series, Montelena, Littorai, Rhys, 00 wines.

Yes, I do speak well of Ramey - often and in multiple locations. :)

Regarding Chardonnays, I am not so high on current Stony Hill. I bought some a while back, and they seemed rather hollow. I put the rest away to see if they develop some magic, but I am not hopeful.

Goodfellow is it's own beast in my experience. I sometimes find them too reductive, but overall they have a transparency combined with depth of flavor that I can't find elsewhere, especially for the prices.

Interesting stuff.

I was wild about the 2014 Stony Hills chardonnay on release, I bought a good stash, might be time to check in again. Stony Hill has new owners these days, so who knows where the style is going (yet).

For me, Rhys and Mount Eden are amongst my favorite New World Chardonnays. I’ve never had a Ramey chardonnay (or Goodfellow or Drouhin), I’ll check it out.

I used to love Ridge Chardonnays, but I’ve kind of lost the fondness, it’s in a little bit too rich and oaky for me.

Goodfellow may be right up your alley.
