2001 Château d'Aiguilhe - This Castillon Cotes de Bordeaux is something that I came across when I attended a seminar/lunch years ago in Vancouver and sat with Stephan von Neipperg, who is a very nice guy and very into his wine business - they also own:

Château Canon La Gaffelière
La Mondotte
Clos de l'Oratoire
Château Peyreau
Château d'Aiguilhe
Clos Marsalette
Château Guiraud

I picked up s few bottles of this wine, having tasted it at the tasting and thinking that it showed promise. There is some bricking in the colour, the nose was fresh red fruit and it was smooth on palate with a medium long soft finish. Holding a wine like this as long as I did could easily result in disappointment if you had a warmer cellar, but this one was in very good shape and was quite enjoyable. I will drink my other bottles this year.

Excellent. I still have one bottle. I will look to unearth it for a fall/winter dinner.

I enjoyed both the '00 and '01 d'Aiguilhe, though both gone. Modern, but not OTT/too glossy for me at that price point. But the '02 and '03 were pretty terrible. The '02 came across as overextracted in a lean vintage, while the '03 was unsurprisingly overripe.
