Wine Packaging

Interesting bottles that stand out from the rest are nothing new but this very modestly priced Piemonte wine seems to have spent a lot of money on a special bottle. Anyone tasted it? I'd probably buy a bottle just to stick the empty on a mantle. It sells for $17....

One has to wonder whether they put as much effort into making good wine as in the packaging.

Exactly! Gimmickry as a stand in for a wine of merit? I bet the bottle cost them more than the wine does.

Wonder if the make a version for left handers with the label on the other side of the bottle.....

My experience is that quality goes down as gimmickry goes up. Wouldn't expect much, but it does get your attention.

From The Google:

Santero is a sparkling and still wine producer located in Piedmont, Italy in the southwest province of Cuneo. The winery was founded by the Santero brothers in 1958 and renovated in 1977 to process fruit from its five estate-owned vineyards and over 300 local winegrowers. It is best known for its large export presence, unique packaging, and expansive portfolio of sparkling and sweet wines.
Santero is able to support a production capacity of more than 18 million bottles a year and exports worldwide. The company has greatly focused on packaging, studying bottle shape and logo, to enhance sales and brand awareness.
The Santero wine portfolio includes a range of wines under the categories 958, Twist, Premium, Carved, Collio, and Dilé. The range is predominantly made up of sparkling wines labeled by wine style, variety, or region including Prosecco, Asti, and Brachetto.
The company also produces a large number of fruit-flavored, sparkling Moscatos.
