WTN: Rombauer Calif Zin '19....(short/boring)

by TomHill » Sun Sep 03, 2023 3:59 pm

Tried another Rombauer last night:
1. Rombauer Zin Calif (15.9%; created from some 50 barrel lots; www.Rombauer.com) Napa 2019: Med.dark color; strong very ripe/juicy/Zin/blackberry/boysenberry some ShenandoahVlly/briarysome fumey/alcoholic/hot some Am.oak/oaky/vanilla rather uninteresting nose; quite soft very ripe/lush strong blackberry/boysenberry/Zin/juicy bit ShenandoahVlly/briary strong toasty/Am.oak/vanilla slight dusty/OVsome hot/alcoholic flavor w/ light ripe/soft tannins; med. soft finish that mimics flavor; a rather overripe/lush/juicy/over-the-top alcoholic/soupy Zin that speaks of SierraFoothills; not a very interesting Zin & pricey for what it is. $35.00 (KK)

1. Cougar Juice?? I suppose you might call it that. Nothing really wrong w/ this Zin but in an overripe style that doesn't much appeal to me. I don't think I have the courage to try their Merlot.

I love the boysenberry/spice fruit of Shenandoah zins, but this sounds like a mess, which it should be since its Rombauer. Have you had the new Rombauer pinot made by Adam Lee yet?
My wine shopping and I have never had a problem. Just a perpetual race between the bankruptcy court and Hell.--Rogov

Nope, Jenise....not tried it yet. Maybe I will if I see it on the shelf.
