I recently formed the intention to survey the CNduP in my cellar for development and for the first pair I chose the following:
1995 Dom, de la Janasse CNduP Cuvee Chopin - this wine is 100% grenache. It had an unusual strawberry jam nose to begin with (it abated with time in the glass to become a more conventional dark fruit nose, smooth on palate, good length and still showed some soft tannins. The wine is still in good shape and drinkable with pleasure.
1995 Dom. St. Benoit CNduP Grande Garde - mid colour - not yet light enough to be called Burgundian but taking on some lightening of the original colour. The nose was excellent - and the fruit levels quite good, and it had a medium length tasty finish.
The wines that we had before and after those featured wines were:
2016 Casal Sta. Maria Colares Malvasia - very interesting aromatic nose , clean on palate and nice length. Unusual and good.
2018 Domaine Michel Briday Rully Blanc - light colour, some slight spice hints in the nose, good fruit levels nd medium length clen finish. Even I wouldn't stoop so low as to suggest that this wine was Rully nice....
1995 Domaine Barge Côte-Rôtie Côte Brune - darker than the CNduPs and with an enticing briary nose that segued into mushroom, earth and dark fruit. Very good length. Beautiful wine!
Next up will be 1995 Les Cailloux vs. 1995 Cailloux Cuvee Centenaire.
