TN Bless me, Father, for I have Zinned

ESJ Peay Vineyard Sonoma County 2001 Zinfandel.

If you think you've had zin, trust me you have not, unless you've had this.

Nose in the glass reveals the red fruit, the grapes, the leaves, the vine, the sunshine, the summer air. I'm intoxicated already. As I held the last sip in my mouth, a rush of a childhood memory came to me. My Mother used to make a tart mixed berry preserve. I recall scraping the last bit from the jar and savoring it as the spoon and jam lingered on my tongue. The soft tannins coat the inner walls of the mouth as the fruit plays down the midline of the tongue.

If you have been turned off by Cali zins, of late, this one will definitely turn you back on!

JB, you really need to post your TNs more often. You do them too beautifully to deny the rest of us the pleasure. I mean it now! :-D

ITA! I enjoyed this TN from title to the last word. I am definitely going to try this Zin out myself!

Lovely note, Giulia! I wish I could write them as well. I've been dying to taste some ESJ wines, but apparently none are to be found in the EU. :(
I don't drink wine because of religious reasons ... only for other reasons.

What a ZINsual TN, Giulia! Yes - you gotta cough up more TN's, my dear!!! Zins can be delicious and thought provoking as opposed to clobbering you on the head!

You've got religion since we had dinner together Saturday night? An epiphany driving down 80?

Evidently there is religion in sales. Steve gets religion when people are buying his wines. :P

Great notes JB. Every time I go to find one of Steve's wines the store is sold out. I live in MD so I can't get them shipped in. I will live vicariously through your notes!

I guess that is the case here in NJ as well...I can't find this Zin anyway (online or in the stores... ) Oh well, I will join James in living vicariously through Julia!

JuliaB,

Love your tasting note, it has so much zing. I am sure the Father will bless you with a zinging heart. Thanks to one of my brothers, my last zinful experience  was deep, dark and luscious, pairing a wonderful zin with dark chocolate squares.

No, No, Steve and his better half were just here to enjoy a dinner at our home with a group of geeks. He brought wine for us to drink, he sold nothing. That's why I was asking about the possible epiphany. Strange?

Strange indeed. On the feast of the Epiphany I thought the three Magi brought gold, frankincense and myrrh. I'll check the Apocrypha for a fourth Magus named Steve who might have brought Rocks and Gravel.
And now what?

Do tell, Tom! Which brother? The one to your immediate left or the third in line? I say, if I can get my hands on more of this ESJ Zin, I smell the makings of the traditional pre-MoCool in room tasting event!

Cheers!

Thank you, Otto! Perhaps, you can convince Steve Edmunds that you could be the importer for his wine?

Where there's a will..there's a zin!
