Tried this Nebb this weekend:
1. Enrico Serafino Picotener Dd'OC: Langhe Nebbiolo (14%; EG&B; EnricoSerafino.It; DallaTerra/Napa) Canale/Piemonte 2020: Med.dark color; really lovely fragrant/Nebb/floral/violets very light earthy/tarry/pungent quite spicy beautiful aromatic nose; lightly tart/tangy quite floral/violets/Nebb very slight pungent/tarry rather gentle/smooth (for Nebb) flavor w/ modest tannins; med.long very floral/Nebb/violets lightly pungent finish w/ light ripe tannins; quite a lovely expression of Nebbw/ lots of floral character; lots like the Vajra JC Clarette Nebb; quite an attractive expression of Langhe Nebb w/o the hard tannins those often show; very well-priced at $32.00 (LCSWS)

1. Picotener is an ancient sub-variety/clone/bio-type of Nebbiolo that virtually vanished in the Piemonte. Enrico is the first to propagate it & release a wine. It is known as the "lost Nebbiolo". Details are at: (http://www.enricoserafino.it/en/story/future/).
So is Picotener the next big thing in Langhe Nebb?? I somehow doubt it & don't see a wholesale movement by other producers to jump on this Nebb bio-type/clone. Enrico will probably remain the sole producer of Picotener for yrs to come. It showed a very strong floral aromatics character but whether this is something inherent in Picotener or Enrico's vinification, I have no idea. It actually reminded more of great Calif Nebb than Langhe Nebb because of its richness & lushness. At any rate, it's quite a good expression of the Nebb grape...whatever it is.
