- 2014 Von Schubert Maximin Grünhäuser Abtsberg Riesling Spätlese - Germany, Mosel Saar Ruwer (8/10/2023)
Two years since my last bottle, and my 2014 “concerns” are finally coming to fruition. This is objectively a very fine wine, but it’s not my style. I like the brightness of the acids that lift without being harsh, but I am less of a fan of the botrytis influence, which lends a distinct honeyed note to the wine. That’s not what I am looking for in Spätlese, especially at less than ten years old. I am sure this will still roll along for many years, but I will try to find reasons to drink up rather than let the honey notes become even more dominant.
