WTN: Sauzet, Foris, Chidaine, etc. by the Hudson

Absolutely lovely day yesterday, and the biggest crowd I’ve ever seen at the waterfront jazz concert. Beautiful sunset, nice Brazilian jazz, nice people. We carried lobster salad (greens, tarragon, citrus dressing) and corn/tomato/avocado salad.

2017 Sauzet La Garenne Puligny-Montrachet 1er
Pear, floral (white flowers) with a hint of hazelnut and minty herbs. Plenty of muscle here but vibrant acidity keeps it from feeling heavy. Really enjoy, and great match with the lobster. A-/B+

2022 Chidaine Touraine Rose
Grolleau, PN, Gamay. Fresh, bouncy, sweet strawberry and grapefruit pith. Nice picnic wine,. B

2020 Aix Quixite (Coteaux d'Aix en Provence)
Name is best thing about it. Pale, empty, flat, a little sweet. C+/C

2020 Foris Dry Gewurztraminer
Not a big Gewurz guy, but quite enjoyed this. Earthy, with litchi and tangerine, a hint of sweetness on palate but dry spicy finish. Fun (disclaimer, Betsy is distantly related to owners, but has never met). B/B+

2021 Routestock Sauvignon Blanc
Less grass than I expected, more straw-y, citrus/gooseberry , a little peach. Moderate acids, ok length. B-

I also had a sip of a Touriga Nacional, but didn’t note name- I didn’t like but it was quite warm so maybe not fair.

Grade disclaimer: I'm a very easy grader, basically A is an excellent wine, B a good wine, C drinkable. Anything below C means I wouldn't drink at a party where it was only choice. Furthermore, I offer no promises of objectivity, accuracy, and certainly not of consistency.

Rogue Valley, OR Gewurztraminer? Interesting.
