- 2020 Orixe Sotelo Rosé en Flor - USA, California, Napa Valley (6/14/2023)
A year ago, when I first received this wine I wondered if it was just a gimmick. It was a nice enough rosé, but didn’t capture anything distinctive. Apparently it just needed some cellar time. Instead of just being a patio quaffer, it has developed depth, richness, and a texture that goes beyond sipping. It doesn’t quite strike me as “creamy” but it feels broader, more substantial. I spent a couple of days following the wine, and still have not been able to fully understand it’s ways. While a very different style, it reminds me a bit of Hardy Wallace’s (Extradimensional Wine Co) rosé just because there is always another passage to explore no matter how far you travel.
