WTN: 2010 Texier Pergaud Brézème VS

by Rahsaan » Sun May 21, 2023 7:52 pm

Last night I had my final bottle of 2010 Texier Pergaud Brézème VS. It showed younger and fresher than the previous bottle from several months ago (which had led me to think the last bottle should be drunk soonish).

The previous bottle leaned on evolved porky highed-toned floral flavors, but last night there was deeper firmer fruit, while also exhibiting plenty of aged harmony.

Bottle variation is a fascinating thing. But either way, all delicious, and a pleasure to drink.

Yes, I did enjoy both bottles. But I was struck by how the two bottles showed different points on the aging curve, and for my tastes I preferred the more youthful expression from yesterday, if I had to choose.

Nothing like a good dose of unpredictable mystery to keep us on our toes. As you say, the wine has the last word!

I think I still have some of the 2009. All out of the 2010.

I think this is the first time I've seen 'floral' and 'porky' in the same sentence!

But yes, variation. On Sunday two people brought the same wine purchased last week at the same store and both were good, but different. It's surprising how often that happens.

Need some guidance here. Sitting on 2013 Eric Texier Côtes du Rhône Saint-Julien-en-Saint-Alban Vieille Serine Domaine de Pergaud, and the 2013 and 2016 Côtes du Rhône-Brézème. Which should I move into the drinking category?

Depends on your tastes. I think you like mature wines, so there's probably no rush. Unfortunately my last bottle of 2013 Saint-Julien-en-Saint-Alban Vieille Serine was opened a few months ago and corked! But if you have a bunch, you could probably check in on that one.
