WTN: Bassermann-Jordan Ruppertsberger Reiterpfad Riesling Auslese 2005

From a half-bottle. Spritzy and pale. Aromas of peach, pear and just a hint of something nutty - possibly hazelnut. Precise balance between sweetness and acidity. Ripe and grapey with some grapefruit on the finish. Good complexity but the finish is abrupt. This seems rather light for an Auslese. I was expecting much more richness.

Despite the issues of the finish and weight of the wine, I still thought it was very good.

Shocking to have a light auslese in 2005, but then it is the Pfalz which is not the best region for 2005s. PErhaps this was picked a bit early to avoid the rampant rot in the region.
