Hitting another older wine to check on condition. BTW, 'drink before' estimates on various sites including CT are useless - most posters have zero idea how a wine might develop in the future, but feel free to make predictions based on ignorance.
This Gigondas is a nbt lighter in colour than it was last time I opened one about five years ago, had nice red berry fruit and some pleasant forest floor elements. It has come along nicely and is still drinking renintgally well, given proper cellaring. No rush..
I laid down several Rhones from the trio of 95, 97 and 98 vintages in all three years and I think that the 97 is my favourite. It is holding well and continues to please. If you see estimates for drinking period ending in 2010 (as CT has it) disregard (unless you cellared them next to the furnace).
And if you want a real treat, and can find a bottle of the 1995 Domaine Santa Duc Gigondas Prestige des Hautes Garrigues, go crazy! I intend to open a bottle of that soon in my Gigie survey.
