Tried these two last night w/ Patrick & Laura Comiskey at Pig+Fig:
1. ElvioCogno Anas-cetta Dd'OC: Langhe Nascetta del Comune di Novello (13%; 100% Nascetta grape; WilsonDaniels/StHelena) 2018: Med.,light gold color; quite fragrant floralNascetta/gardenias some Arneis-like some R-floral slight mineral some complex lovely nose; fairly tart/tangy slight metallic quite floral/gardenias slight herbal/new mown hay slight mineral/chalky fairly rich/lush bit spicy some complex flavor; very long/lingering same finish; seems to be losing a bit of the intense R-like fragrance but developing a bit more depth & complexity; quite a lovely white.

AndisVnyd Orange Wine of Viognier ApetahiVnyd/ShenandoahVlly/Amador (13%; 2 brls; http://www.AndisWines.com) NV: Deep gold/burnished bronze/slight browning somewhat hazy color; some phenolic/ViniMacerati/resiny slight earthy rather fragrant/floral/Viog/ripe peach some honeycomb/honey grahams slight pencilly fairly complex slight oxidative lovely perfumed nose; lightly tart very strong orangey/honeycomb/honeyed some floral/Viog/ripe peach light phenolic/VM/skin-contact bit earthy/bitter quite complex flavor; very long/lingering quite complex/orangey/honeycomb/honeyed some Viog/floral/peachy sligh VM/phenolic bit pencilly slightly bitter quite complex finish; a beautiful example of a VM at mid-maturity; should improve for another 4-8 yrs; beautiful wine.

1. I bought this Andis VM some 5-6 yrs ago as I recall. At that point in time, it was dominated by the skin-contact/phenolic character & the Viog was fairly beaten into the background. It was not much pleasure to taste. In that intervening time, this wine has really evolved beautifully, with the phenolic character fading into the background and the Viog fruit coming to the forefront. Quite an impressive VM wine.
I think this wine was a one-off experiment. I would hope the Andis folks would make it again. Andis make some beautiful Zins and an outstanding Schioppettino. And I see they also make an Arinto, one of my favorite Portugese white wines.
