WTN: Dominode Theory

by David M. Bueker » Tue Apr 18, 2023 7:51 pm

2002 Louis Jadot Savigny-lès-Beaune 1er Cru La Dominode - France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Savigny-lès-Beaune 1er Cru (4/18/2023)
From my dad’s cellar, and I really don’t know why he bought this, as he never drank any of the bottles. I opened two while visiting over the years, and when he passed there were still four left. I brought two home, and opened one tonight. Good timing. It’s in that mature state where earth, fruit and mineral merge into a seamless whole. It’s not clear where one ends and another begins. Light to medium bodied, it does not dominate the palate, but retains brightness to make the next sip mandatory. There’s actually a fair bit of tannic structure, but enough depth for balance. It could be more assertive aromatically, but given what it cost on release I am not going to quibble. It’s drinking well, and in no risk of decline.

Sounds good. That special magic that only comes from aging wine.

Interesting to muse on your father's purchasing logic. We could probably all say that about some of the wines in our collection!

Perhaps. I have some “Tuesday night after a bad day at work” stuff, but not much.

Thanks. Usually the only Dominode I see is the Pavelot. I did run across a bottle of '02 Ecard Narbantons in a buried box this week, I should open now (Jadot is usually pretty structured, and if it's drinkign well, I'll assume Ecard is)>

I have some Bruno Clair Dominode as well. I should check in on those.

Thanks for the tasting note. Savigny-les-Beaune is one of my very favorite Burgundy villages and I've found Dominode to be one of its best vineyards.
