WTN: 4 Bedrock/Carlisle Whites....(short/boring)

by TomHill » Mon Apr 17, 2023 4:49 pm

We tried these 4 last week at Pig+Fig:
1. Bedrock SauvBlanc SonomaVlly/SonomaCnty (14.1%; UboldiVnyd/GlenEllen + JudgeVnyd/BennettVlly + BedrockVnyd/Block3; Drk: 2022-2027: MTP; www.BedrockWine.com) Sonoma 2022: Light yellow color; light ripe/melony/SB/slight herbal little oak pleasant if simple nose; bit soft some rich/lush ripe/melony/SB no obvious oak very slight earthy flavor; med. light melony/ripe/SB/bit herbal finish; a pleasant rather simple SB fairly priced but pushing towards bland; a bit disappointing for a Bedrock; may put on some weight w/ age, but kinda iffy. $24.00

2. Bedrock SauvBlanc BedrockVnyd/SonomaVlly/SonomaCnty (14.1%; Musque clone; Block 2 + Block 3) 2022: Light gold color; somewhat stronger ripe/melony/SB/bit floral slight Musque/muscatty bit earthy somewhat attractive nose; lightly tart slight floral/Musque bit stronger SB/melony/herbal slight earthy flavor; med.long ripe/melony/SB/floral but Musque finish; an altogether pleasant SB but little more than that; doesn't show a very strong floral/Musque character. $30.00

3. Carlisle Compagni-Portis SonomaVlly/SonomaCnty WW (13.6%; Plants: 1954; OV White Field blend: GWT/TrousseauGris/R; 70 cs) 2021: Light gold color; very strong very spicy/GWT very fragrant/floral slight chalky/mineral lovely very perfumed nose; lightly tart fairly intense GWT/floral/quite spicy light mineral/chalky some complex flavor; very long/lingering very spicy/floral/GWT slight chalky finish; a really lovely expression of Calif w/ lots of floral/spicy character; doesn't show any of that in-your-face/hair-oil character that some Calif GWT's show; reminds a lot of the more subtle 10 yr old VT Alsatian GWT's I've had. $36.00

4. Carlisle GrunerVeltliner SteinerVnyd/SonomaMtn/SonomaCnty (13.8%; 85 cs) 2021: Light gold color; very strong floral/GV/gardenias slight white pepper slight earthy/chalky fairly perfumed nose; fairly tart/tangy strong GV/floral/gardenias light chalky/mineral/white pepper flavor; very long strong floral/gardenias/GV finish; a bit more subtle & not as intense as previous GV at this point of release. $27.50

More keisterbop from TheBloodyPulpit:
1. I generally like the Bedrock SauvBlancs. Their Staves of Waidhofen SB is easily my favorite and one of the better Calif SB's. I found these two Bedrocks just a bit underwhelming & a bit disappointing.
Two outstanding whites from Mike. The GWT was pretty exceptional. Subtle & elegant for Calif GWT.
Mike makes, to me, the best Gruners in Calif. This newest one seemed a bit more subtle & less intense than previous ones at this stage. But I have little doubt this will evolve into another wonderful Carlisle GV.

"Best Gruner in California" is kind of the tallest short person award so far as I can tell.
