Sainte Magdeleine Baume-Noire Vermentino IGP: Bouches-du-Rhone WW (13%; Rolle grape; KermitLynch/Berkeley; MeBalP) Famille Sack-Zafiropulo/Cassis 2021: Light gold color; rather pleasant Verm/floral/carnations slight earthy/chalky/mineral fairly attractive nose; fairly tart/tangy quiet Verm/floral/gardenias bit herbal fairly strong chalky/mineral/earthy rather pleasant flavor; long quiet Verm/floral/carnations slight chalky finish; a perfectly pleasant/quiet expression of Verm/Rolle w/ some earthy Rhonish character but rather underwhelming & quite overpriced. $44.00 (KK)

Dirupi Nebbiolo DOCG: Valtellina Superiore (14%; GiulianaImprts/Boulder) Dirupi/Ponte/Valtellina 2018: Med.dark color; strong very flral/Nebb/lilacs/violets very slight pungent/tarry some earthy classic Valtelline Nebb bit complex nose; lightly acid/tangy fairly rich/lush strong Nebb/floral/lilacs/violets/rose petal slight earthy/dusty/OV bit complex flavor w/ modest ripe/soft tannins; very long/lingering very strong floral/violets/lilacs/Nebb some acid/tangy bit complex finish w/ some ripe tannins; a really classic expression of Valtelline Nebb w/ a richness/lushness you don't get usually in Piemonte; almost a Calif expression of Nebb; can use another 4-8 yrs; loads of floral Nebb character and very fairly priced. $45.00 (KK)

1. Vermentino: Never done/did see the Bouches-du-Rhone AC before. Being this is in the Rhone, it was not labeled as Rolle, but Vermentino. Probably for marketing reasons.

2. Dirupi: When I first tried the Dirupis up in the Valtelline, I found them a bit on the funky/unclean side. The more recent ones I've tried have not been that at all. This Dirupi reminded me a lot of the Pellizatti's I fell in love with in the early '70's.
