2007 Dönnhoff Dellchen Riesling Großes Gewächs - Germany, Nahe (4/6/2023)
Drop…dead…gorgeous. Over the last 30 years that I have been drinking Riesling, there have been a handful of wines that reached a point of convergence where the heart of Riesling lives. This is one of those wines. Molten stone, halved peaches seared on a cherry wood fire, grazed with the smoke of a freshly lit pine bough…it’s all a seance of Riesling, attended by Gods from Alsace, Germany and Austria. It’s one religion, regardless of sect. Please drink a bottle of this now if you happen to have one. It’s a talisman, a token of vinous beauty.

Sounds great. Was 05 or 06 first year with GG designations? I have a few vintages of this, but oldest is 2011.

2005 was the first time the Dönnhoff GGs were imported to the USA. 2003 was the first year that GG was officially designated.

Great note. Was this a case of a singular bottle/vintage shining so high, or do you always prefer Dellchen GG over Hermannshohle GG?

I love them both, but this specific bottle was hitting some real top notes.
