2006 F.X. Pichler Riesling Smaragd Dürnsteiner Kellerberg - Austria, Niederösterreich, Wachau (4/4/2023)
This should have been really good. Purchased on release from an excellent source. Cellared at proper temp and humidity since purchase, and opened at just under cellar temperature. Sadly it was all overcome by 2006 Disease. The wonderful peach, saline and light honey elements were overcome by intense alcoholic heat on each and every sip. I almost finished a glass before dumping the rest of the bottle. There’s too much better wine to drink lighter fluid.

Too bad. Combination of hot year and ripe FX style I guess.
I also remember a Hiedler Maximum that was similar.
I do have one bottle of 06 Nik. Steiner Hund that I remember as balanced.

I have opened a bunch of Schloss Gobelsburg wines from 2006 that have been fine.
