WTN: A Chard & A Zin...(short/boring)

by TomHill » Tue Apr 04, 2023 3:40 pm

Tried these two last night:
1. Dehlinger Chard EB/RRV (14.2%; U) Sebastapol 2020: Light gold color w/ some bubbles that slowly dissipate; very attractive fragrant bright/melony/Chard/lemony/spicy light pencilly/Fr.oak slight toasted almonds very pretty nose; fairly tart/tangy very spicy/nutmeg rather pencilly/toasty/oak strong lemony/Chard/almondy somewhat ripe/melony/Chard/slight herbal somewhat rich/lush lovely Chard flavor; very long/lingering strong melony/Chard/lemony/appley/spicy some nutmeg/pencilly/oak bit complex lovely finish; a very well-made/balanced fairly rich/lush pure expression of Chard that should improve over the next 2-5 yrs. $45.00

2. Bedrock NervoRanch Heritage AlexVlly/SonomaCnty RW (14.5%; Plntd: 1896) 2021: Very dark/near black color; very intense blackberry/Zin/boysenberry/very spicy/ripe some peppery strong vanilla/oak quite dusty/OV some complex nose; fairly tart/tangy intense blackberry/boysenberry/very ripe/Zin/very spicy quite dusty/OV some vanilla/oak rather rich/lush/smooth quite lovely flavor w/ modest ripe tannins; very long/lingering intense blackberry/boysenberry/very spicy Zin rather dusty/OV some vanilla/pencilly/oak rich/lush rather structured finish w/ modest ripe tannins; not as big & ripe as other Bedrock Heritagesbut shows a bit of the elegance you get in Nervo; blows away what Ridge does w/ Nervo; more structured than most AlexVlly Zins; maybe the best Nervo I've had; needs another 2-6 yrs; beautiful Nervo. $45.00

More jibberslack from TheBloodyPulpit:
1. My latest Bedrock shipment arrived last week. When I pulled this Nervo from the shipper, that was a lot of sticky stuff down the side of the btl & onto the label. Upon closer inspection, the btl had taken a big hit to the top & cracked from the lip on top, down the neck to just below the bottom of the cork. So there was ullage just to the bottom of the neck. I wasn't particularly worried. When I tried to pull the cork, the cork & the remaining neck of the btl came off as one piece. But the wine tasted perfectly fine & there was no signs of oxidation or being comprised. But something new for me.

Wow. Lucky that bottle didn't completely fall apart in shipping or worse yet end up causing you injury when you opened it!

It takes Nervos of Steel to open a bottle like that. ;)

It was really strange. The piece that split held about 3/4'th the cork Circumference. Most Of the leakage was the fissure below the cork. But the cork was solidly grasped in the piece that split off.
