Joe brought these two older Rieslings to our tasting at Pig+Fig this week:
1. Teutonic Wine Co Riesling CrowVllyVnyd/WillametteVlly (9.5%; www.TeutonicWines.com) Olga&Barnaby Tuttle/OregonCity/OR 2011: Light gold color; some petrol/Mosel valve oil fairly strong floral/R/mango bit steely/mineral quite Germanic lovely perfumed nose; fairly tart slightly rich/lush quite dry but not austere light petrol/Mosel valve oil fairly strong floral/R/mango slight steely/mineral/chalky bit tangy/metallic some complex lovely R flavor; very long/lingering light petrol/Mosel valve oil somewhat complex fairly strong R/mango/floral lovely finish; a really lovely floral R w/ hints of petrol; the richness suggests more Sudtirol R than Mosel; quite a lovely Germanic expression of R. $21.00 (vJM)
______________
2. Ch.Lafayette Reneau Riesling FingerLakes (11.5%; Semi-Dry; www.CLRWine.com) Hector/NY 2008: Med.gold color; bit earthy/mineral slight saline/chalky rather floral/R/mango/pineapple very slight petrol/pungent bit metallic fairly fragrant nose; bit soft rather off-dry/lush rather pineapple/R/mango bit rich/ripe somewhat simple pleasant flavor; med.long soft slightly sweet fairly pineapple/floral/R/mango finish; a pleasant enough R that doesn't speak much of FL R & a bit too sweet for my tastes; pleasant R but just that. $?? (vJM)

More dicklesmarsh from TheBloodyPulpit:
1. Teutonic: A new wnry to me. Started in 2008 w/ only their love for German wines but no $$'s & no experience, they plunged into planting vines & making wine, just on Barnaby's using Olga's credit card. This probably falls into the dumb-luck category.
They appear to be firmly in the natural wine camp. But this wine showed absolutely no natty or unclean character whatsoever. I was impressed. I'd love to try their Gruner & Tannat.
