WTN: Two Older Calif Whites....(short/boring)

by TomHill » Wed Feb 22, 2023 5:37 pm

Had these two for DinDin the last two nights:
1. Ryme Vermentino Hers LasBrisasVnyd/Carneros/SonomaCnty (12.3%) 2016: Loads of tartrates on the cork; light gold color; strong very floral/gardenias/Verm/very spicy slight perfumed talc some chalky/mineral some complex beautiful aromatic nose; some tart/tangy fairly rich strong floral/gardenias/Verm rather spicy/perfumed talc/nutmeg/cinammon some chalky/mineral rather complex lovely flavor; very long/lingering quite spicy/perfumed talc/nutmeg/cinammon strong floral/gardenias/Verm light chalky/mineralfinish; a beautiful Vermentino that has evolved into some quite interesting w/ almost a Sardinian-like quality.

2. Forlorn-Hope Moresque Albarino RorickVnyd/CalaverasCnty (13.81; Skin frmtd; 52 cs) Murphys 2015: Deep gold/burnished bronze color; rather phenolic/VM/skin-contact rather earthy/loamy bit sweaty horses/unclean/funky some honeyed/honey grahams rather resiny very slight floral/Albarino somewhat interesting nose; lightly tart/tangy/bit metallic rather resiny/VM/phenolic some earthy/loamy slight floral/Albarino somewhat austere/tannic slight honey grahams/herbal complex flavor w/ some tannic bitterness; long rather phenolic/VM/resiny/skin-contact some earthy light honey grahams/graham crackers/bit honeyed rather austere/bitter/tannic bit complex finish w/ light austere/bitey tannins; loads of VM/skin-contact/phenolic character but still needs another 3-5 yrs of age; quite austere on the palate & not much Albarino character; not a VM that is developing very well but may turn into something interesting...or maybe not.

1. The Ryme Hers always impresses me w/ the amount of flavor it packs w/ not particularly high alcohol levels. This Hers has developed a real complexity in it & is drinking beautifully.
