1994 Domaine Lucien Barrot et Fils Châteauneuf-du-Pape - 1994 was a middling vintage for Chateauneufs - decent but not necessarily long lived. Some have been quite durable - I still have Vieux Telegraphe, Beaucastel and Vieux Donjon which have lasted well, plus a handful of single bottle lots that I figured I should get to, this being one of those (I have maybe a case in total left).

The wine still had surprisingly high fill and good colour - lighter/clearer than in youth but a nice pure garnet now. The nose was mostly blood and red meat with hints of thyme, and there was a long elegant finish. All in all much better than I would have expected. With airing it became even more Burgundian.

Sounds delish, Bill.
