WTN: Cuvaison

Last night we opened a 2019 Cuvaison Napa Chardonnay. I had actually purchased it as a Christmas gift for my California-chardonnay loving BIL, but my brother fell under the spell of Jehovahs Witnesses and there went that. Thought it would be brighter, but modest bottle age and mildly toasted oak and low acid show more secondary development than expected. Quite rich, the kind of chardonnay that would have been perfect for the BIL--someone who still enjoys the occasional steak but would rather drink white wine than red, period. That's not me, but it has a place.

I guess I am not terribly surprised at how it showed. Not all California Chardonnays have come back from the edge in the last several years.

Thanks for the reminder - forgot I had one bottle of their 1986 cab - might be time to open it. Will make sure you are present!

Only had one glass from that bottle. Last night, we finished it and enjoyed it even less--lot more heat on the finish than apparent the first night.

Guess what I found in my dad’s cellar - a bottle of Cuvaison!

Not surprised! A cab, perhaps? What vintage?
